3 or 4 days from Marrakech to Fes?
- 3 days — the most popular option: one night in the Dades Valley, one night in a desert camp at Merzouga, and arrival in Fes on the evening of day 3.
- 4 days — a gentler pace with more time around Ouarzazate and the kasbahs, and shorter driving days.
- 5 days or more — add a second night in the desert or a night in the Middle Atlas; ideal with children.

What you will see on the way
The Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and its film studios, the Rose Valley around Kelaat M'Gouna, the winding road of the Dades Gorges, the 300-metre cliffs of the Todra Gorge, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, the palm groves of the Ziz Valley, Midelt and the Barbary macaques of the Azrou cedar forest before Ifrane and Fes.
Your night in the Sahara
You reach Merzouga in the late afternoon and ride a camel into the dunes for sunset. Choose a standard Berber camp or a luxury camp with a private tent, real beds and your own bathroom. Dinner, music around the fire and breakfast after sunrise on the dunes are included.
Why not just take the train?
The train between Marrakech and Fes takes around 7 hours and shows you nothing of the south. For only one or two extra days, the desert route turns the transfer into the highlight of your trip — and your driver brings you to the door of your riad in Fes.
